“He who laughs, lasts.” Norwegian Proverb
After so many fun hikes and our road trip extravaganza, I was excited to see the city of Stavanger.
The rural areas of Norway have been stunning to see but even the city is gorgeous. I love how nature is incorporated into the city planning. So many trees, green spaces, and lots of water. The pictures don’t do it justice…so you should come visit.
Inge was a fun tour guide and seemed excited to share her love of the city with me. She showed me the beautiful homes, colorful streets, and a pub or two…or three. We popped into souvenir shops and cute thrift stores. It was lovely.
Stavanger is a whimsical little place full of mesmerizing flowers and plants, colorful front doors, and mussel wreaths.
After seeing seafood shells adorning the houses, I had to eat some traditional Norwegian fish soup. Apparently, the restaurant in the harbor, Fisketorget has the best in town.
I mean, I haven’t tried it anywhere else but this bowl of deliciousness was amazing. So many flavors. Our server, Marcus from Houston, was fantastic as was the homemade bread and butter. 10/10.
While I was visiting the ONS (Offshore Northern Seas) conference was happening. It’s a pretty big, and somewhat controversial event that fills up all the hotels in the city…and even draws protesters like Greta Thunberg. On the last night of the conference, ONS hosted a concert that was open to the entire community for free. I’m not certain but I think almost everyone in town made an appearance.
The headliner was Dagny, an extremely talented Norwegian singer and songwriter. Ingeborg and her friends love her music so we all went together. I was excited to see her live show.
