Yesterday, I took a day trip to the cute, quaint town of Giverny, France to see Claude Monet’s House and gardens where he lived from 1883 to his death in 1926.
His full legal name is Oscar-Claude Monet. Can you imagine calling him Oscar? Apparently, his parents did since his father’s name was also Claude.
I signed up for a tour through City Wonders. They offered two tours at 9:30 am and 2 pm. I would normally choose a morning tour but anyone who paints, especially Claude, knows that lighting is everything. I thought going later in the afternoon would be better to see the gardens where he painted since the morning light would be over by the time the morning tour arrived.
The environment and lighting did not disappoint. His house, the gardens, and all the colors were magical…just like his paintings.
The inside of his home is just as beautiful and colorful as the outside. Every room is painted a different color. Aside from his art on the walls, most items in the houses are replicas. His personal effects and furniture are in museums scattered around the globe.
As you can see, he definitely had an eclectic collection of art, furniture, and knick-knacks.
