“There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.” Norwegian Folk Saying
We woke up after a night of heavy rain to a beautiful sunrise and warmer weather on the lake at our Bandak campsite.
I paused for a moment before climbing out of the van to realize how very grateful I am for this experience in Norway with Ingeborg. It is so nice to finally be able to create a life where I can wake up with time and freedom to do the things I want and enjoy. I love that I can write from anywhere while living the experiences I want to live. I remember working in an office and always being on someone else’s schedule which left very little room for my own hobbies and passions. This morning was simple, peaceful, and absolutely lovely. I feel very fortunate.
After we ate our breakfast and packed up the van, we were off to our next stop, Kjerag. It’s a famous place that you’ve probably seen on the internet or social media. It looks like this…when the weather is good.
Unfortunately, the weather was not cooperating with us to go for a walk. The winds changed and a storm blew in carrying with it a ton of rain and fog on our drive there. I said we could skip this hike (sad face). Ingeborg would have gone no matter what I said, she’s a good friend like that, but I didn’t want to hike in a storm and risk getting stuck on the mountain (other people were braver - or crazier - than us and did the hike). So we split a carrot cake muffin in the cafe at the trailhead and watched the rain instead. Decent trade-off in my book.
Our final destination for the day was Lysebotn. It’s a cute little village at the bottom of one of the curviest roads in the world. This is also where base jumpers land when they jump off of the big mountain above. Here is a photo of the road from the balcony of the cafe (where we ate the muffin) at the top.
