“I want to travel. Maybe I’ll end up living in Norway, making cakes.“ Eva Green
First - I would like to give a shoutout to Ingeborg’s mother and her book club. Apparently, her mom has been reading my blogs at their get-togethers. Hello, Ladies!
Good morning, Norway! 🇳🇴
Our first night in the camper van was a success! I slept like a baby with the sound of the stream as a lullaby.
I woke up well-rested despite the overnight rain and ready for a hot cup of coffee while we watched the river flow past our back door. I can't believe I am living this life right now.
Ingeborg has thought of everything. I’m not sure I could spend too much time with many people in a camper van on a week-long road trip but Inge and I get along smashingly. We make a great team, as we found out in Sri Lanka and India. And India will test a person’s patience if you are not used to the chaos…as I found out firsthand. My dear friend Madge swears Inge and I would win the TV show Amazing Race if they would allow foreigners on the show.
While I rearranged boxes and got out supplies, Ingeborg fired up the “stove” and boiled water for our coffee, tea, and oatmeal.
We added blueberries to the oatmeal that we picked at her parent's Hytte. Simple but delish!
After we enjoyed the view of the river, ate breakfast, and packed up, Ingeborg said we had a long drive ahead of us to a surprise location that she planned a week ago. We had to be there no later than 2 pm. This was our big activity for the day.
Oh, the suspense!
🚗💨💨 several hours in the car later…
To my delighted surprise, Inge had booked two hours of bliss at the Soria Moria Sauna on a lake in the Fjords!
People, people, people, listen to me. The sauna experience in Norway is next level. You MUST try it.
Public saunas are a big thing in Norway. They are scattered all over the country. Ingeborg has pointed out several on our trip.
The setup to use these magical rooms is super easy - everything is online.
Inge booked our reservation online and a code was provided to get the keys to unlock the bathrooms with showers (showers are required before use) and the sauna itself. After we were finished we cleaned up, placed the key back in the lockbox and the next folks showed up for their reservation. Super easy.
The facilities are extremely clean and nice. Plus, this entire experience cost us $15 USD each for two hours. You can't go to a movie, sporting event, or concert for that kind of money and I had just as much fun…if not more because I was an active participant and not a spectator.
Just look at this place and these views. Even on a rainy overcast day, it was gorgeous.
